How I work

Hand crafted with care

I take great pleasure and pride in making furniture that will delight my clients

Typically, I’ll visit you to discuss your requirements in detail. Looking perhaps at other furniture you’d like to match, I’ll be able to get a feel for the setting and the style you have in mind, the overall dimensions, and features like the number and size of drawers or doors.

Don’t worry if you don’t have very specific ideas at this stage; I’ll be able to show you wood samples and photos of previous pieces and make suggestions to help us agree what will be best for you in terms of design, function and budget.

I’ll then typically produce one or perhaps two sets of preliminary illustrations, which I’ll use to make detailed construction drawings for the project.  Once we’ve agreed the design outline I’ll write to you to confirm a binding price, payment terms, and my anticipated time frame for making your piece.

Construction begins...

For each piece, I will personally select the timber I will use, carefully choosing individual rough-sawn boards from my specialist hardwood supplier, with the aim of finding the best combination of colouring and grain-figuring for the desired look and feel of the piece.

As I work, I’ll keep you posted with photos and a quick email update ( if you want !), and depending on size and complexity , your custom-built furniture will usually be ready for you within 2-3 months.  With fitted pieces of course you’ll be seeing more of me: the components will be made up in my workshop as far as possible, and constructed in situ when ready.

I take great pleasure and pride in making furniture that will delight my clients, and I’m certain your chosen piece will be something to be treasured and enjoyed for many years; and perhaps even passed on to future generations.

I work alone, as an independent designer/maker, in my own small workshop. Because I only take on a couple of projects at any one time, I am entirely focussed on ‘getting it right’ for each client...
